Seattle's Best

I stopped by a store today and ordered a coffee which was served in a “Seattle’s Best Coffee” cup.  I have seen this brand before but it got me thinking.  Seattle?  Coffee?

I know that Starbucks started in Seattle.  I know Seattle is known for its Indie rock and grunge music.  And apparently, it is a coffee mecca.  But coffee is not grown in Seattle.  In fact, it isn’t even grown in the state of Washington.  My limited Google research suggests that Hawaii is the only US state that actually grows coffee (and gazillions of cups of this brew are consumed each and every day around the world…but I digress). Strange.

So how is it that a west coast city has taken the mantle of being THE place to go for coffee?

Frankly, I do not know.

But here is what I do know.

They have a heck of a brand to the point where they put it on coffee cups and coffee stands and people flock like ants to a picnic to get some.  And they didn’t let the fact that they have to import all of their coffee interfere with their becoming the” go to” coffee experts.

So, my question is to you is this.

What are you best at?

When I ask this question, I am often met with resistance in the form of “I don’t know” or “I am stuck doing what I am doing,” or the like.

Now I think of Seattle coffee.  Somehow, that city just became really good at coffee and now the whole world knows.  Rather than look for barriers to achieving your goal, think of how cool it will be when you achieve it and become known as “the best” despite all of the odds that may be stacked against you becoming so.  So take a couple of minutes and ask yourself the following:

  1. What would I like to be known as being “best” at?
  2. How can I take a first step today in a journey to becoming the “best?”
  3. What is standing in the way of me becoming “best?”
  4. Am I prepared to put everything I have into overcoming those barriers?

Next time you wheel into Starbucks or drink a “Seattle’s Best” coffee, remind yourself that you can be the best at whatever you want as well.
